The DoubleShot Duathlon isn’t for girls, but it sure seems to be turning into a ladies’ race.  Where are the men?  Are they too cowardly to come out and take on the women and the woods and the rocky trails that the DoubleShot Duathlon has come to be known for?  The ladies are throwing down the guantlet.

The 2010 DoubleShot Duathlon is an OFF-ROAD race on dirt singletrack with plenty of rocks and roots.  The race is on October 2 at Osage Hills State Park.  The race will start at 9a when I fire my .357 magnum.  You will run approximately 5 kilometers, ride your mountain bike (while wearing a helmet) 15 kilometers, and then run another 5k.  We quote the race in kilometers because it sounds further and when you tell your friends about it you sound tougher.

You will set up your bike and gear in the transition area prior to the race and then change shoes twice (please don’t disrobe unless you’re hot).  Accurate and immediate chip timing.  There will be prize money for the overall female and male winners, primes for the fastest bike and run, other weird prizes, finisher medals, lots of giveaways, free hotdogs and beer.

Your picture will be taken on the course, which you can purchase if you want to show your boy(or girl)friend how badass you are.

And if you want, you can compete on a team, where one person runs and the other person rides.

I promise a fun and entertaining atmosphere.

Thank your sponsors.

Rules

USA Triathlon rules will be used as loose guidelines and enforced when we feel like it.  ANSI/Snell approved helmets are mandatory.

Race will be held rain or shine (or desert-like heat or freak snowfall).

Teams consist of two people only.  Each teammate must complete at least one leg of the race, but it’s not necessary that one person do both runs.  Only one teammate on the course at a time- it’s a relay.

And you must finish the race.  It’s a rule.

Awards

Finisher medals for all racers who cross the line.

BIG money to the top three female and male finishers Prizes for top 3 teams

Primes for fastest splits for male and female

Last place award

Random other awards and plenty of free stuff

Course

Run and bike courses will be dirt singletrack.  Both 5k runs will be fairly strenuous and technical,  The 15k bike section will be on trails that are bumpy and hard, but you can still ride most of the course pretty fast if you’re in the tribe.  I highly recommend you come with knobby tires and a nice suspension fork (though I used to know a guy who could’ve killed this course on a cyclocross bike) (His name is Daryl the Destroyer though).  Running in running shoes is always a good idea too.  C’mon barefoot runners, let’s see what you got.

We anticipate that everyone (beginner to expert) will have a lot of fun at our races and not be injured beyond what the EMTs can handle (and what a beer and hotdog won’t fix).
